I’m thrilled to have been one of the first in Calgary to try the Tixel treatment at Pretty and Poised Medical Aesthetics. It was quick, with minimal discomfort—just a 2/10 on the pain scale, and I barely felt anything in most areas. They applied numbing cream beforehand and a soothing cooling mask afterward. I had very little redness and even went out for lunch right after.
For a few days, my skin felt a bit rough but didn’t look bad at all, so there was essentially no downtime. What is the Tixel?
Tixel is an innovative treatment that uses thermal-mechanical energy to resurface and regenerate the skin. This non-laser, non-surgical procedure creates microscopic channels in the skin stimulating new collagen and elastin production. This treatment is safe for all skin types and can be used to address skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, skin texture and sun damage.
What does Tixel feel like?
Tixel is a well-tolerated treatment. Many patients can be treated with topical numbing to increase
patient comfort. Most patients report feeling some heat at the treatment site.
How is Tixel different from a fractional ablative laser?
Tixel is not a laser. At higher settings, providers report similar results to their fractional ablative
lasers. With the Tixel, the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin) remains intact, making it
an easier recovery with significantly less downtime. Patients have no oozing or bleeding and report
significantly less swelling. Additionally, Tixel patients can apply sunscreen and makeup just 24 hours
post-treatment, allowing patients to return to normal activities quickly and without visible wound
healing.
Can Tixel skin resurfacing treatments be customized?
One of the key advantages of the Tixel Skin Resurfacing is the adjustment of size and depth of the micro-channels according to the individual needs of the patient. This allows for a customized treatment to address individual skin concerns and a more personalized skin care experience.
